Eliud Kipchoge Training: A Typical Sunday
The Sweat Elite team spent the month of August 2017 training alongside Eliud Kipchoge and his training group, in the lead up to the Berlin Marathon (September 24) where Eliud Kipchoge will attempt to officially break the Marathon World Record. Eliud Kipchoge is the man who ran 2:00:25 at the Nike Sub2 Project in early May 2017.
Eliud Kipchoge Training – A Typical Sunday
A sunday for Eliud Kipchoge involves just 1 run of between 18-22km (approx 11-13.5 miles), slightly longer than the Monday-Wedesday-Friday runs and normally purely based on how they feel.
Sometimes this run is done very easily (as usual, starting at around 5:30-5:45/km) and quickly working down to 4:00/km with an average of 4:15-4:20/km, and sometimes this is done quicker.. with an average pace at under 4:00/km.
This run will be done in Kaptagat (2400-2500m altitude) or sometimes in Eldoret (Eliud’s home – 2000m altitude) and the pace will depend on the course and surface.
Flat, road courses, they’ll tend to roll at around 3:40-3:50/km which is obviously very easy for the group.
On the cross country courses up in Kaptagat, pace will be closer to 4:00-4:15/km on average.
